Knowledge is Power

Welcome to “Whole-istic” care!

Have you wondered why we call it foundational healthcare? This pyramid is a great visual representation of total (ah heck, let's call it “Whole-istic”) care. Did you know:

  1. Exercise: Regular physical activity has been associated with a 30-40% increased lifespan.

  2. Healthy diet: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins has been linked to a 30-40% increased lifespan.

  3. Maintaining a healthy weight: A healthy body weight has been associated with a 20-30% increased lifespan.

  4. Not smoking: Smokers have a significantly increased risk of dying prematurely, and quitting smoking has been linked to a 20-30% increased lifespan.

  5. Moderate alcohol consumption: Moderate alcohol consumption (one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men) has been linked to a 10-15% increased lifespan.

  6. Social connections: Strong social connections and a sense of community have been linked to a 10-20% increased lifespan.

  7. Getting enough sleep: Getting 7-9 hours of sleep per night has been linked to a 10-15% increased lifespan.

  8. Managing stress: Chronic stress has been linked to a shortened lifespan and managing stress through techniques such as meditation and exercise has been associated with a 10-15% increased lifespan.

  9. Getting regular medical check-ups: Early detection and treatment of medical conditions can help extend lifespan and getting regular medical check-ups has been linked to a 5-10% increased lifespan.

  10. Engaging in activities that promote mental and cognitive health: Engaging in activities such as reading, puzzles, and socializing has been linked to a 5-10% increased lifespan.

These things are the foundations of our health. If we neglect our health habits no amount of doctor visits, prescriptions, or surgeries are going to preserve or bring back our health. We may be living longer, but we are not living better. Without health, the extra life becomes a struggle. Everything in the pyramid is being supported by what's below it. If we neglect the foundations, more and more of our care must be shunted up the pyramid to more expensive, less effective, and frankly way fewer fun interventions.

What's up?

Keep your eyes peeled for McNab Wellness out in the community. In 2023 we are going to be doing a lot of community education. This will be in the form of guest spots in local media events on TV and news outlets. In addition, we are gearing up for more informative offerings in community groups. We are very excited to offer info to the community to help shape the future health of our friends and family.

Things to come:

Lifestyle Consultations: In 2023 we will start offering consultations for longevity and lifestyle interventions for those who want to add foundational care to their routine but aren’t necessarily looking for primary care doctor (yet!). These consultations will consist of offerings such as:

Complete “Whole-istic” consultation: this is a comprehensive review of all six pillars of health: Nutrition, Activity, Sleep Health, Stress Management, Toxin Exposure and Social Health. Complete recommendations and care plans will be provided for clients to follow.

Nutrition consultation: this is a deep dive into crafting a nutrition plan designed to take you from where you are to where you want to be with your health goals!

Activity consultation: this is an in-depth evaluation of your musculoskeletal function! Sure, muscles are important! Let’s grow some! But also, how about joint health, mobility, and balance? If our goal is to be fully functional in our 90’s we need to cover it all!

Full Plate Diet courses:

In 2023, Elizabeth and I will be hosting “The Full Plate Diet” courses. This is an educational program designed to help people meet their body goals by increasing the amount of food they eat! Crazy right? It turns out by helping folks figure out how to get more fiber in their diet, amazing health impacts start to occur! We love this approach!

Sharing is caring: Feel free to share these newsletters with your friends, families and associates. Our goal at McNab Wellness is to help as many people as we can with our most potent tool.
